Build it – Paint it – Play it! CALAFANT cardboard toys
encourage and support children’s creativity.
Studies have proven that, apart from language, creativity is the most important way for children to express themselves. Whenever they paint, do craft projects, build models or engage in pretend play, they work out emotions, experiences and learn to find their own solutions. Plus, they practice their fine and gross motor skills. Child psychologists, doctors and teachers recommend supporting the creative development of children.
CALAFANT have developed toys for this exact reason: CALAFANT toys are easy to build, fun to decorate and wonderful to play with – for any child.
All CALAFANT models are designed in Germany and made of high-quality, recyclable cardboard. All pieces are pre-cut and pre-punched. They can be put together without glue and scissors thanks to the CALAFANT slot-system. An illustrated manual is included with each toy.
CALAFANT cardboard toys can be painted and decorated as you imagine it.
The CALAFANT Concept – Let children build their dream (castles)!
A couple of years ago, Boris Schimanski, a well-known cartoon artist in Germany, set out with the intention to keep his kids occupied with something that would hold their attention and imagination long enough for him to finish his current work project in peace and quiet. He took some plain cardboard, drew a castle and punched out the individual pieces.
With this building and some decorating material, he was able to incite his children to spend more time in their playroom than in his studio.
This was just the beginning. After his work project was completed, he noticed that the kids were still busy with his cardboard creation. After they built their castle by putting the pieces together, they decorated it with all sorts of things from the house and yard and played with it, along with their little figurines, for hours and hours.
The joy of playing with their self-made toy didn’t diminish and more and more friends joined in. This is how the business idea for CALAFANT was born. With the support of his equally enthused business partners from Hong Kong, new cardboard play worlds were produced for the first time. Today, children from all over the world can choose from many different CALAFANT models in various sizes: from spooky castles, cool palaces, tepees and forts, to adventure tree houses and more. Ready, steady, paint and play!
Philosophy behind CALAFANT products
– Smart toys for smart kids –
CALAFANT is solely focused on a child’s need for creative play. The company has the extremely sturdy, yet light and flexible cardboard material specially produced to ensure high quality for children to freely decorate and safely play. The company knows that kids like to transport or even throw and push the toys, and the special cardboard allows them to do that without the toys being easily damaged. Many small details reveal the great thought that went into the development of each model. With the included illustrated instructions, the toys can be built easily without glue, thanks to a clever fold-and-slot system.
CALAFANT pays close attention to ensure that there are no sharp edges or pointy towers. Since play and storage space is often an issue, each toy can be folded away for storage and, once the child has outgrown or outplayed it, it can be recycled instead of being thrown away and sent to a landfill. The new walk-in, expandable CALACASTLE offers another practical innovation: The towers feature removable tops to become secret compartments for treasures and other toys. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into this compact piece of furniture that can be built as a traditional castle or in L-shapes. Also, additional modules can easily be added to expand the CALACASTLE.
Children can create their very own imaginative play worlds with CALAFANT toys. Recent studies show how important it is for children to express their creativity. Apart from room to play, they need appropriate and adequate materials to build, paint and play to develop their fine motor skills, express their feelings and experiences, and find their own working solutions. Not only is it fun, but according to the Transfer Center for neurological sciences and learning in Ulm, Germany, it allows children to become smarter and promotes individual thinking.
